Portfolios and programs are placeholders to track major initiatives in an organisation, but all the work is defined and completed in projects. Therefore, it is important that all the related programs and projects are attached to, or associated with, the appropriate higher level initiative.
When programs are associated with a portfolio, the program and all its associated projects are also rolled up to the portfolio. Programs can only have projects associated with them, which will roll up to the program.
To add related programs to a portfolio, or a project to a program or a portfolio:
Add related programs/projects to a portfolio
- Ensure you have the appropriate portfolio (or program) open.
- Click the Programs/Projects (or Projects) tab.
- Click Add Existing Program (or Add Existing Project).
- Click All records if the record you are looking for is not shown.
- Select the appropriate Program (or Project).
- Click Add.
- Click Save & Close.
Relate projects to a portfolio/program
- Ensure you have the appropriate project open.
- Open the Project header.
- Search for and select the appropriate Portfolio (Program).
Important: While projects can be standalone, a project can only be associated with a single program or a single portfolio. Similarly, if required, a program can only be associated with a single portfolio.
