Welcome to the Portfolios Intake Reporting. It is mainly focused on the portfolio manager and program manager roles as well as the project manager role as it pulls all the proposals in the organisation together and highlights what is most important.
Important: If you are not familiar with Power BI, we recommend you review the Power BI Fundamentals lesson. It will provide you with a working knowledge of the Insights report.
Here is a summary on the purpose of each page, experience the various filtering options, and understanding of how to make this report work best for you.
- There are two (2) separate pages in this report. Each page can be accessed directly by selecting the tab at the bottom of the screen and contains a variety of ways to slice, dice and focus the data.
- Also, each page has an info icon in the header, so any time you need real-time help, click on it to open a pop-up info pane containing a basic description of the report page you are on.
- Proposal Overview page pulls all the proposals together where you can see at-a-glance, proposals by stage and by sponsor and a visual of the proposal costs compared to the proposal financial benefit. The summary cards also show the estimated effort and average ROI. Using the slicers at the top you can easily focus on proposals that best align with the organisational objectives. You can also see proposals by departments or sponsors to get a feel for where most of the proposals are coming from to identify if there is a solid alignment between the direction of the organisation and what is going on in the business. The table aids in the decision-making process. This can help to determine if they should be accepted and prioritised. In some organisations, regulatory and compliance proposals might take precedence even if they have a zero ROI.
- Proposal Timelines page provides a visual of the proposals based on their start and end dates as entered by the proposal creator. You can easily see the overlap and work with the respective sponsors to reduce the overlap where possible. You can also use this to balance the proposals across investment categories, departments, or sponsors – which ever would be most appropriate for my organisation.
